Berlin – Hertha BSC has announced the good news in early May 2020 that Pál Dárdai would return and take up a role with the club’s youth academy, after taking a year off. The former player and former head coach of the Blue-Whites will take charge of the U16s ahead of the upcoming season, and will also take over as coordinator of academy development. Dárdai’s long-time assistant, Admir Hamzagić, will also join the coaching staff as an assistant coach, together with Jochem Ziegert. The trio will reunite after having previously worked together as coaches of the club’s U15s, before Dárdai took over as head coach of the Hertha first team.
Continuity: ‘Zecke’ Neuendorf, Hartmann and Reiß to remain with their teams
Academy director, Benjamin Weber, sporting director, Frank Vogel, and head of organisation, academy and social, André Henning, have also announced further staffing news for the remaining academy sides. Andreas ‘Zecke’ Neuendorf will continue on as head coach of Hertha’s reserves, after having taken charge of the Regionalliga side ahead of the current season. Malik Fathi will remain in his role as assistant coach of the reserves. Michael Hartmann will remain as coach of the U19s, and will be joined by former U14s head coach Rejhan Hasanovic. There will be no changes to the coaching staff of the U17s, with Oliver Reiß and Oliver Schröder set to remain at the helm for the 2020/21 season. Sofian Chahed, who will give up his current role following Dárdai’s return, will instead take over as coach of the U15s. Agostino Burgarella will join him as his assistant. Current U15 head coach, Tobias Jung, will take up the same post with the U14s, and will be joined by Patrick Lehmpuhl. Robert Zander and Michael Dober will take charge of the U13s. Meanwhile, Andreas Thom will continue his work as individual and technical coach.
“Even if we do not know yet exactly when our academy will be able to return to regular training and games, we’re pleased to have been able to make these decisions regarding the Hertha BSC academy ahead of the upcoming season,” said Benjamin Weber. “Aside from maintaining continuity in our head coaches, having a mix of former Hertha players and young, ambitious coaches is extremely important.”
