Alongside Pál Dárdai, Admir Hamzagić and Andreas 'Zecke' Neuendorf took charge of the first team last Monday after periods in charge of the U16s and U23s. The academy leadership was keen to arrange coaches to take over these positions as quickly as possible. As early as last Tuesday, it was decided that Malik Fathi and Levent Selim were the correct people to fit the role of coaching the U23s. Fathi had been an assistant coach with Hertha's Regional League side since July 2019 while Selim was in the U23s coaching staff since the summer of last year. The pair will succeed their previous boss Neuendorf as co-coaches and lead the U23s as a partnership into the future. “We’re delighted to have three academy coaches in charge of the first team. At the same time, it was also clear to us that in Malik and Levent, we have the ideal people to fit the U23s and we will not need to make any adjustments externally,” explained academy director Benjamin Weber.
U16s to train together with U17s until further notice with trio in charge
Hertha's B-Junioren-Regionalliga team, which, like the U23s have had their football suspended until 28th February at the earliest, will train together with the U17s until further notice. Both teams will be coached by U17s coaches Oliver Reiß and Oliver Schröder along with previous U16s assistant coach Jochem Ziegert. “For the U16s, we’ve opted to go with another internal choice. Jochem has been here at the club for years and knows the players well. Together with our U17s coaches, we’re confident that this solution will provide optimal coaching for our U16s,” said Weber.
