Comprehensive medical care at HerthaMED

Since the start of March 2020, Hertha BSC’s academy players have been able to take advantage of medical and therapeutic care at the Olympic Park. Physiotherapists Laura Schulz and Anne Kaube ensure that the therapy centre and Hertha’s youth sides from U17s to U23s are well connected. Laura Schulz also looks after Hertha’s fourth-division side alongside her role at HerthaMED, whilst Anne Kaube is responsible for helping the U19 side. But it’s not just the older academy players who are treated in the ultramodern therapy centre, but younger players are too, dropping in before or after school training. “The older players are here much more often though, and often spend the whole day,” says Schulz, whilst showing the appointments booked in for the well-equipped rooms.

Daily work usually involves treatment for small knocks after training or more complex ligament injuries that the players have sustained in matches. But it really doesn’t matter what the issue is – Laura Schulz, Anne Kaube and the whole team at HerthaMED will deal with all problems and guarantee comprehensive medical care. The two physiotherapists don’t attend their sides’ training sessions, but they are present at every game. That means that they’re always in close exchange with the coaches. “Hardy (U19s coach Michael Hartmann) and I speak once a day face-to-face. He also entrusts me with all medical issues and gives me this responsibility,” explains Kaube, who has had the role since 1st September 2020 and acts as a link between Hertha BSC and the clinic. “’Zecke’ likes to phone us when he’s driving and pops in daily – he makes it clear that I’m responsible for this area,” says Schulz, who has been working at HerthaMED since April 2020. As well as being in constant contact with the football coaches, the physiotherapists also communicate with the athletics coaches at Hertha and the doctors at Vivantes.

As well as the youth players at Hertha, school children from Berlin and athletes from the local area can make use of HerthaMED’s first-class set-up, which includes various rehabilitation measures, tests and check-ups. An appointment can be made by telephone or via email.
