Ruwen Werthmüller signs professional contract

Hertha’s excellent academy work continues to bear fruit. The capital city club have tied U23s talent Ruwen Werthmüller to a long-term professional contract. The Berlin-born Switzerland youth international can be played anywhere across the front line, either through the middle or on the wings. "I’m really happy that Hertha BSC have put their faith in me. For me it’s confirmation and a reward for all the hard work these last years. I’m grateful to the coaches in our academy and will do everything to show myself and continue developing in training," the 20-year-old told. For Arne Friedrich, the contract was a logical step. "Ruwen has shown how much potential his has with his performances in the U23s," he said following the contract announcement. "We’re convinced that he will take the next steps in his development with us – he represents the great work our academy does."

Ruwen Werthmüller joined the club in 2010 and has progressed through all the ranks of the academy. The right-footed forward was part of the Hertha U19s squad that took part on the UEFA Youth League, while in the current season – shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic – he has scored three and assisted three in eleven matches under head coach Andreas 'Zecke' Neuendorf.
